I just got back from my (hope to be daily) walk and I counted no less than 15 houses for sale in a roughly 2 mile distance. I can't help but think that these folks are either:1. Moving because they have lost their job and have to move to a less expensive abode?
2. Re-locating to another state because they couldn't find work here in Austin.Either way, it's not a pretty situation. I'm sure there are a few folks out there who are doing well and are moving on up in the world. Although, I'm sure that these are few and far between. It would be interesting to take a neighborhood survey and find out the number of people who have been laid off in the past two years. Some of my friends, who are highly talented and excellent folks, have been laid off up to 3 times!! It just doesn't make sense.WORLD ECONOMY, IF YOU ARE LISTENING. PLEASE RETURN TO A NORMAL STATE OF OPERATION. Thank you for the lesson in basic economics, home budgeting, self-appreciation, importance of family, and humility. We get it. Honestly. Now, can we please go back to work?
Google SearchThis weekend I added the ability to search my weblog using Google's free search offering. I was a bit concerned that I would not be able to search all of my content due to the delay between indexing times. Good News!! The content I posted Friday afternoon is now visible via Google. That means that the delay is just over 48 hours. Since my weblog shows 7 days of content, I don't see any issue in using Google for my primary site search. As Fuzzy would say, “Thanks, Goog!!”

Tonight Anna and I went to a 30th birthday party for an ex-coworker of Anna's from Apple. It was a great time. 3 tequila shots into the event, I was having a great time. We remarked all the way home how nice everyone seemed to be. It was a bit comforting that almost everyone we met seemed to have been laid off in the past year and had turned their life around with newfound ambition and courage. It's such a nice surprise to enter a house full of strangers and walk away feeling like you've left a house full of old friends. Even the cops that showed up seemed to enjoy the party.
)It amazes me how each week, Austin feels so much like home. I used to miss Dallas quite a bit and rarely thought of Austin, but lately, Austin just feels right. It's been nearly two years since I came back. I guess we're finally getting settled. Finally.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the dramatic number of Mac applications that have increased in the past 6 months. It seems to me that lately, the number of utilities and standard business-type apps have increased quite a bit. No doubt that the Mac is becoming more popular for standard, “common joe” users, but the number of developers and programmers using Macs seems to be increasing.Truly, a great sign for the future.
