The rare male bachelor (degree). The Washington Post is running a story on the decline in numbers of males receiving Bachelor's Degrees. As their graphic shows, of those receiving bachelor's degrees in 2000, only 43% were male. Although not a huge disproportion, it should be noted that this trend is projected to continue, and become worse. [kuro5hin.org]

I've been out of town and haven't kept up with my reading, but is this true? I'll stay off my soapbox for the time being, but I can hardly believe that people go so far with this stuff. Maybe I belong in a nice, cozy little mid-west town where God and family are still sacred. Maybe it's because I'm from such a town that I believe they are. Is it possible to take freedom too far? When the first Americans came here, they left a place that didn't agree with their beliefs. Can we ask anyone who doesn't agree with the original American beliefs to just go away? OK, I'm done now.

US Pledge of Allegiance Ruled Unconstitutional. Millions of American schoolchildren — including almost all adults who grew up in the US — have for two generations recited a daily pledge of allegiance in schools. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that pledge to be a violation of the US Constitution. Social conservatives are outraged, liberals are smirking, and many of us are just stunned. Wi-Fi users take cue from hobos. In London, techies are “warchalking,” drawing a chalk symbol on a wall or pavement to indicate the presence of a wireless networking node–much like people once signaled each other about a good meal spot. [Adam Curry: Adam Curry's Weblog]
From Mac to Windows and back. Back to Mac. Like so many folks who had to leave their Macs behind as they moved into the business world, Alan Graham found himself with three desktop PCs and a Toshiba laptop. They have since passed through eBay, and now Alan is a columnist for the Mac DevCenter. Here's how a Mac user got trapped in Windows, and escaped.
